Our ladies softball team started off their 2026 season with two games in the London Southend Airport Ballerz Blast. Keen to build on the successes of last season, the team have added players and have been training hard.
First up was a game against local rivals Upminster. Batting first we scored 149/4 off our 10 overs. Upminster managed to score 181/5 to win by 27 runs despite a great effort with the ball. *due to a lack of scorecard, further details of who scored our runs and took our wickets isn’t available.
We then welcomed Aztecs to Cromer Road and once again we were narrowly edged out; falling to a 17 run defeat.
After winning the toss, captain Sam led the way with 3 wickets; including the prized wicket of the visitor’s hardball superstar. Jaz and Lucy also chipped in with wickets as Aztecs set us a chase of 152.
Nicola gave us a brilliant start with 26 off 21 balls before some right bowling left us slightly behind the run rate. Jackie (16) and Lucy (20) then batted superbly as the last pair but we were just unable to get across the line.
However, there were many positives, despite the defeats, and the team will continue to go from strength-to-strength as the season progresses.
